The Letter of Peace is a precious contribution to the framing of a conscience of human destiny, not only because of its purpose and intention, but also because of its bases. It is a call to substitute evidence for conjectures and ideologies. What better evidence could our reason admit than that of our ontological solidarity as existing beings?. The "Existencial Realism" on wich the Letter is based expresses the human astonishment before the mystery of life, which is always endowed by somebody else, and which is left to human freedom in order to continue its pilgrimage. Peace is, from this point of view, simple and humble acceptance of life. Thank you for having taught us this.

The Letter of Peace is a pedagogical and educative initiative. Living Angola so many stigmas (wars, intolerance, etc.), what important would be to know this Letter in our country!. It would be important for people to debate the Letter of Peace in forums and conferences.

The objetive of the UN is to preserve the peace. UNESCO objetive is the same too. Education, science and culture are ways of preserving peace. The Letter of Peace remembers us that we all are one because we are people, we are human beings.

I have been dedicated to education all my life, and this is why an action like this seems important to me; because we are a group of people that have our convictions and we have come together freely. We are going to do something in full freedom, and we are responsible for this action. This is the important thing for peace to exist.

International organizations may or may not support what we may or may not do. But what cannot be destroyed in the benefit of peace is our free decision to create that peace every day, which means to fight against violence day after day. This is what this Letter is, a device of our convictions, no just a declarative one, but an active one: it represents our wish to act daily in a way that favours the building of peace.

Just us, and our acting freely, become something important, because nobody can do it for us, if we are not there. Thus, this is what I think most important in this action, because it is a genuine one, no one is compelled to join, that's the power of simple things, wich is the only power worth using for peace's sake.

In this hour, when we witness a rebirth of hatred and violence in no few parts of the world, this Letter brings us relief and courage with which to strengthen our hope that we will learn how to live without war. It constitutes a moving manifest for peace, love, and freedom. Thus, we join the faith in world fraternity this Letter echoes, with the conviction that only development in equity -between nations and inside each of these-, can turn this beautiful pacifist Utopia into a definitive and vital reality.

This Letter is just what I have always thought but never got chance to formulate. I could not cross a single thing out, not even a comma.

I read the Letter of Peace with much interest. I was impressed by a document full of evidence, that was at the same time so convincing. I began to traslate it immediately. I am determined to sign such an important document, because I consider it a duty I must do in order to contribute to mutual understanding between different peoples and cultures, and also to world peace.

I am questioned by the Letter of Peace. That idea of preserving peace is the one which helped me to sign it. We have the obligation of keeping peace which is even more than necessary to overcome economic challenges.

Our destiny is written is this Letter of Peace. It was written for us. It is the destiny of America. It is the Letter we have to follow in this continent with peace vocation. For that reason I agreed with joy to come and accompany you in this ceremony.

Thank you for the initiative of the Letter of Peace addressed to UN. Nations, like us, human beings, who watch war disasters and its consequences, can appreciate every step, every effort done in the world for the peace sake. Those initiatives are positive stimulus for the peace in the world and also show to the people, who are not lucky to live with peace, that they are not forgotten, that there is still people in the world who worry about them.

I did not read the Letter of Peace as you read just anything, but instead, I began reading it with great enthusiasm, which gradually grew, because it seemed to me that it reflected my own feelings (...) and the great masters in Natural Law should develop in depth the points exposed in the Letter of Peace.

The Letter of Peace is a document for unanimity. It is unquestionable, it cannot be refuted. It has all the elements to be a clean document against dogmatism, racism, and fundamentalism.

It is a way out for the present world. The Letter of Peace is an historic document that must not be restricted to the UN.

Peace must be not just a stop but an organic peace, a situation of natural balance obtained through justice, collaboration between nations and the reciprocal respect they may profess. We understand peace as a consequence of high-hierarchy values, as a result of the people's and their government's good will, by which true solidarity should become a substitute for hegemonic ambition, and in the same way equity should replace arbitrarily, and righteousness should replace force. Peace that stems from fear is just mockery. We do not believe in an armed peace, but in a concord that originates in the happiness work gives, in all the countrie's participation in the big actions of humanity, and in the faith that we all may have in our capacity of coexisting.

This is why we must not aspire to a "pacific coexistence", which is a term tinged with selfishness, alien to the communion of interests, but to a genuine "harmonic coexistence" between both governments and people.

As a president of the Congress for Human Rights Commission I must emphasize the basic ideas of the Letter of Peace based on the respect of freedoms. I think societies can be better when people live together respecting each other under the rules stablished in that social agreement Rousseau talked about.

It is important that this document goes to the people with power in the decision of our destinies, to the UN, which will conmemorate the 50th aniversary in 1995 and was founded to build and preserve peace. It is important that we send them our opinios and feelings so big organismes do straight sensitive things about peace as I read in this wonderful Letter.

If the first right of every human creature is his right to live, the second is that this life must be developed in peace. This peace has to be rooted in freedom and justice. Without peace any of the rights of the girls and boys of the world and their families will never be effective.

The Letter of Peace, which you are so nice to let me know, is a shout coming from good people, from human beings with souls hungry for mercy, with a huge capacity to forget past wrong things. They are men and women who are able to be moved by the miracle of life which is shown in the new born children of the enemy. God bless your efford and help the politicians from every race and condition to understand this cry of mankind born from your thoughts and meditation.

All war end up with a signing of peace. And now we want to begin at the end, signing for peace directly (...). It is often regarded as peace something that, in reality, is only an armistice. Peace is not a period between wars, but a reality based on justice, freedom and solidarity, which are the bases of the Letter of Peace. The Letter of Peace is not addressed to an abstract, but to each one of us. Today will be an important day, provided that everyone is able to diffund in his/her environment the humanistic message this Letter contains.

I am impresed by what this Letter of Peace says about resentments in history. In fact, we can find many examples of resentments within families and within nations. There are many countries where there are resentful families, that let this feeling hurt them for generations, their present members not being able to explain the actual reasons.

Love cannot be imposed. It must be the result of freedom. I applaud this Letter of Peace.

Numerous teachings at the Law Faculty tend to stress the principles exposed in the Letter of Peace. These impregnate, likewise, the research works undertaken in the fields of Protection of Individual Rights, Fundamental Rights, and Democratic structures.
