A new book of comments published

The Letter of Peace Foun-dation and Universitas Albertiana have published a new book: «Comentarios a la Carta de la Paz dirigida a la ONU» (Comments on the Letter of Peace Addressed to the UN). This work, wrote by Juan Miguel González Feria (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1937), is a synthesis of many insights that were formuled in seminars and other meetings organized by the author and the Universitas Albertiana Peace Institutes. It analyses the ten points of the Letter and brings new insights to each one. Besides, several comments and quotes from other intelectuals who have worked on the document or treated alike subjects reinforce the issues brought up in the book. Obviously, the Alfredo Rubio’s words, one of the authors of the Letter are still present. However, this book does not pretend to be a closed work, but a starting point to deep in the document. As a matter of fact, the Letter of Peace Foundation and the Universitas Albertiana wish this work to be the first of a number of publications which compile thoughts about the Letter, from different society sectors. «Comments on the Letter of Peace Addressed to the UN» is a work written for all those people that concern about Peace and want to think over the basis and foundings for peace. With this goal, the book presents a simple style, with many explanations about the vocabulary.

Guest lecturers take part in the university course on the Letter in Santo Domingo

This semester the Madre y Maestra Catholic University of Santo Domingo (the Dominican Republic) is offering a course on the subject «Development of the Peace Culture, from the Letter of Peace». The objective of this course, with about thirty students in the class at present, is to work through the contents of the Letter so that the young people acquire new ways of perceiving, reflecting on and acting in favour of peace.
Throughout the semester, several lecturers have been invited to give classes. The first one to take part was the Co-lombian, Nancy Lozano, who explained the origin and development of violence in her country. During her intervention, Nancy made a recommendation for countries which are not living at war: «Transform yourselves into instruments of peace, try to value peace, since its fragile nature makes it easy to lose and extremely difficult to recover». And she predicted: «There will be more peace in the world when we learn the true meaning of it and when we base our actions on brotherhood, justice and solidarity». The second visit during these university sessions was from the Domi-nican, Freddy Ginebra, a communicator and publicist, who dealt with the docu-ment’s third point and made the students reflect upon the importance of friendship. He explained to them that a good friendship requires giving, sacrifice and forgiveness.
Some weeks later it was Lebanese Ramy Makhlouf who analysed the Arab-Israeli conflict from the Letter of Peace. Finally, at the beginning of November, Agustín Viñas, member of Àmbit Maria Corral expounded to the students the subject of freedom.
